What is the best way to clean vinyl flooring?

Right now, all vinyl, including luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile, is trending because it offers so many benefits, and one of those is that it provides easy care. It requires only a regular (daily, if possible) sweeping and periodic damp mopping. However, like anything else, it will need some extra TLC every so often.

Why you will want to sweep every day

We know we know….it might sound excessive to sweep every day, but there's a good reason for it. Sand and dirt are sharp, and they can scratch your beautiful LVP and LVT floors! You also want to wipe spills immediately, even though luxury vinyl is waterproof because that prevents stains from setting. Our goal is to help you keep your floors looking great for a long, long time. Routine care will do just that.

What cleaner is best?

Just be sure the cleaner is manufacturer-approved because some, especially those waxy, shine-promoting ones, will damage the finish and dull the floor. You can also make your own by mixing one cup of apple cider vinegar with a gallon of hot water. The vinegar is acidic enough to dissolve dirt but not so much that it will create damage.

How to remove scuffs and stains

Some stains, like acidic ones, including ketchup, fruit juice, or tomato sauce (my specialty!), can be removed with a baking soda/water paste. Leave it on the stain, cover it with a soft cloth, let it sit for a while and then wipe it with a vinegar/water combination.

Lipstick or crayons can be blotted with rubbing alcohol and scrubbed with a soft-bristle brush; avoid abrasive tools, like steel wool or stiff brushes because they scratch the floor. For scuffs, spray some WD-40 on a towel and rub. Then get the WD-40 off the floor with the vinegar/water mix.
